Pierre Bibault

Openness and curiosity characterize the musical thought of multifaceted French Classical and Electric Guitar performer, Pierre Bibault.

 

A soloist and chamber musician, he explores all periods of music from the Renaissance to the present and is a pioneer of new music.  

 

Mr. Bibault holds three master’s degrees (Performance, Pedagogy and Musicology) and is currently finishing a Ph.D. in Arts, Instrumental Performance Guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Belgium, specializing in gesture and microgesture and vibration transmission from the composer to the audience.

 

Pierre Bibault performs more than 40 concerts a year in various countries from Western and Eastern Europe to the United States, Asia, Canada and North Africa. He has performed in such prestigious venues as the Philharmonic Halls of Paris, Brussels, Liege (BE), Lviv, Khmelnitskie (Ukraine);the Maison de la Radio in Paris and Brussels; the Opera Halls of Avignon, Reims and Liege; the Palais des Festivals of Cannes; the St George's Bloomsbury Church of London; the Art and Culture Center of Bangkok; the Cathedral and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Liege; the Tyska Kyrkan of Stockholm; the Bon-Pasteur Chapel of Quebec; the Kouvoutsakis Art Institute of Athens; the universities of Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Houston, Louisville, and Lafayette (USA).

 

As a soloist, Bibault explores contemporary repertoire that combines classical and electric guitars, live electronics, samplers, loopers, and computers. He is also in demand as a guitarist for renowned contemporary music ensembles such as 2E2M, Mezwej, and Variances, and for various chamber music formations with cello, violin, flute, voice, chamber and symphony orchestra.

 

From 2006 to 2016, Bibault has played with the Duo Resonances, one of the most active guitar duos of its generation. Together, they played more than 300 concerts and recorded a CD acclaimed by the critics (album of the week on iTunes, Feb-2014; Jun-Tokusen (Classical Music Award in Japan), June 2015; "A first-rate album" – ThisIsClassicalGuitar, March 2014).

Pedagogy is also an important part of the musical life of Pierre Bibault. He is a teacher-researcher at the Brussels Royal Conservatory / University and a full-time professor and Artistic Coordinator at the Conservatoire de Sèvres - Grand Paris. He gives master classes and lectures in France and abroad at universities, festivals, summer academies, conservatories,  and cultural institutions.
